Adjustments
The core element of Chiropractic treatment is manipulation or
adjustment (these terms are interchangeable). Properly
performed manipulation is very safe - hundreds of times safer than
taking an aspirin.
But what are Dr. Hume's adjustments like? Adjustments
range from feeling like gentle pressure in a specific area to a
pleasant "give" sensation, with less tightness and pain in the
area, and a sense of well-being afterwards.
The Canadian Chiropractic method is very specific and the
treatment is extremely gentle. An adjustment takes a joint
slightly beyond its normal range of motion. If this is done
with too much force, permanent damage to the joint and surrounding
tissues may result. However, if the patient is carefully
positioned and, therefore, the joint is fully locked when the
adjustment is given, a very gentle force is all that's required and
excellent results are produced.
Dr. Hume evaluates each affected joint's function each and every
visit and, based on these findings, make the appropriate
adjustments. The specific nature of this procedure produces
much better results than when the same chiropractic adjustments are
repeated every visit (which can lead to instability and more rapid
progression of degenerative arthritis).
Also, Canadian trained Chiropractors correlate a joint's loss of
function with the activity of related muscles and provide
treatment
for these muscles. This helps to produce long lasting
results.
