Bursitis
When a "bursa" becomes inflamed, the condition is known as bursitis. A bursa is a fluid filled sac that functions as a gliding surface to reduce friction between moving tissues of the body, over an exposed or prominent bone or where a tendon passes over bone.
Most commonly, this is a noninfectious condition caused by
inflammation resulting from local soft tissue trauma. On rare
occasions, the hip bursa can become infected with bacteria.
