The Healing Process
Most people assume that once pain has left an area, that area
has finished healing. But this is
not usually the case. Pain leaving an area is often
just because the swelling in the area has decreased. The
actual healing of the tissue takes weeks after that to complete.
This period of healing, after the pain has gone and before the
healing is complete, is when most re-injury occurs.
Unfortunately, a re-injury to a healing area is usually very much
worse than the original injury. This is because the tissue
injured in the re-injury was already broken and weak.
This new tissue that forms in a healed injury is actually
structurally different than the original tissue and not as strong
(except in bone). However, it is possible to maximize the
strength and function in healed tissue with
adjustments
and
ultrasound.
