Rotator Cuff
A rotator cuff injury is a common shoulder problem It can
occur due to repetitive strain or trauma.
The rotator cuff refers to a group of four muscles with a common tendon that stabilize the shoulder joint. With injury, the tendon can become irritated. This condition is known as rotator cuff tendonitis, bursitis or impingement syndrome.
A more serious injury occurs when the rotator cuff tears. This can happen with chronic tendonitis or a traumatic incident such as during heavy lifting or an auto crash.
A rotator cuff injury of any type has the tendency to get worse without treatment. A vicious cycle is initiated. This is because the injury reduces the shoulder's ability to move properly and this, in turn, exacerbates the rotator cuff condition.
