Rotator Cuff - Symptoms and Causes
Some common symptoms are:
- Pain or aching in the top, front or side of the shoulder
- Pain when lifting the arm to the overhead position
- Muscle weakness, especially when trying to lift the arm
- Difficulty sleeping on the painful side. Pain may also interupt sleep
- Catching and grating or cracking sounds when the arm is moved
- Limited motion
Some common causes are:
- Heavy lifting
- Overuse, such as repetitive overhead work eg. pitching, painting a ceiling
- Injury, such as a fall or auto injury
- Aging, which is associated with the reduction in the blood supply to the tendon
